The Slovak power market for renewables
Slovakia is a nuclear-heavy, euro-denominated market coupled with Czechia, Hungary and Romania through the 4M MC and the single European coupling. Solar additions have resumed after years of connection moratoria, and the system now sees the regional midday price dip.
The market is small, so cross-border flows and neighbouring zone prices largely set the Slovak price.
Feed-in surcharge, auctions and settlement responsibility
Older plants receive a doplatok, a surcharge on top of the market price administered by the regulator; new projects rely on merchant revenue, PPAs or capacity auctions. All producers must be represented by a subjekt zúčtovania registered with OKTE that settles imbalances every 15 minutes.
SEPS procures FCR, aFRR and mFRR, and the balancing market is opening to aggregated batteries.
OKTE day-ahead and intraday trading in Slovakia
OKTE is both the market operator for the coupled day-ahead and intraday markets and the imbalance settlement body, which simplifies the data flow for producers. Intraday liquidity benefits from SIDC coupling.
Imbalance prices follow SEPS balancing costs and can be steep on days with large regional forecast errors.
