Aggregation platform for renewable energy: why country rules slow growth
A VPP that works in Germany does not work in France. Redispatch 2.0, the Mécanisme d'ajustement, UVAM in Italy, the Swiss balancing-group model and the British Balancing Mechanism each need their own data exchange, prequalification and settlement logic, and each exchange needs its own certified connection. Aggregators that grow country by country end up maintaining several platforms, and expansion slows to the pace of the integration backlog.
SAMAWATT's aggregator platform was built market-first: the national mechanisms are modules, the exchange connections are shared, and the forecasting and optimisation layer is the same everywhere.
How VPP aggregation works on SAMAWATT: from DER onboarding to dispatch
Assets are onboarded through standard telemetry interfaces, assigned to a balancing group and a market module, and dispatched by the same optimiser that runs SAMAWATT's own portfolio.
- 1Onboard distributed assetsSolar, wind, batteries, hydro and flexible consumers connect through standard metering and control interfaces.
- 2Apply the country moduleBalancing rules, prequalification, data exchange and settlement for the asset's market are applied automatically.
- 3Forecast and optimise the poolAsset-level forecasts are aggregated; the optimiser allocates the pool across spot, reserve and imbalance markets.
- 4Dispatch and settleOrders are executed through shared, certified exchange connections; settlement and reporting run per customer under your brand.
How aggregators make money: flexibility, balancing and spot
Aggregators earn a share of three margins: the trading uplift from selling pooled output more intelligently than each asset could alone, the balancing margin from netting deviations inside the pool before they hit the imbalance price, and the flexibility revenue from reserve and congestion-management products that need a prequalified, controllable pool. A multi-country platform adds a fourth: the same asset base sold into whichever national flexibility product pays most.
SAMAWATT charges aggregators a platform fee plus a performance share; the customer contract and the brand stay with you.
White label aggregator services from SAMAWATT
SAMAWATT runs the full aggregation chain — forecasting, pooling, optimization, exchange execution and settlement — under a partner's brand in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and further markets, with the national rules of each maintained by SAMAWATT. We own no generation assets, so your customers never compete with ours, and every dispatch decision is reported at asset level.
